Would appreciate any help on this one. It even looks strange to my untrained eye. Guessing it is from the die breaking down? Not seeing any crazy varieties on 1940's so curious what your thoughts are on this. Thanks for your help.

haha, -makecents- and makesNoCents in one thread. I can't make any sense of that..

However, that nickel is very worn down from circulation and struck by a very tired die. as stated above.

Not a premium for the coin. Just extreme die wear on the older dies.

Is that reverse crack a planchet flaw? It looks as-struck, not PMD.

Looks more like a coin scratch on the building. A crack will have a raised crack line on the coin:
