Quote: ... today I received a new note. It's a common Friedberg number, but PMG has only graded about 15 higher than 65EPQ. The vertical centering on the front isn't quite what I expected for a 65, but I'm still quite happy with this one. Excellent!

Thanks, jbuck! I hope to be able to share at least a couple more in the coming week; I've got bids on 3 on Heritage right now that will be coming up in the next day or two, with all of them being a bit scarcer notes and one which is rare in uncirculated grades.

Here is my lone acquisition from the Long Beach auction on Heritage, but it's a pretty decent one. It's a fairly scarce Spinner note, Fr#1329. I did miss out on the rare Justice note, and I'm kicking myself a bit for not continuing the bidding a little more on that one. Oh, well! PMG has graded 106 of these Fr#1329 notes. There are currently 8 in 65EPQ with 8 graded higher.

Thanks, hfjacinto and jbuck! Quote: Watch out those had signed notes are addictive. Yep, this is my 3rd one so far. The Justice note I missed out on was also a hand signed one.

I've had a long gap in new fractional currency acquisitions, but finally made a purchase at the Heritage FUN auction. I was actually bidding on three; one went crazy high in price, another I hesitated too long in raising my bid, but at least I got this one! This is a bit tougher note to find, especially in this grade. PMG has graded a total of 69 Fr#1268 15 cent 4th issue notes, with 3 graded in 64EPQ and only 3 higher (all 65EPQ).

Two new acquisitions arrived Monday. The first is a 25 cents 4th issue Fr. 1301. While it's a common note, it's a bit less so in grades of 65 or better. PMG has graded 350 in total, with 11 in 65EPQ and 11 higher. The second is a 10 cents 2nd issue Fr. 1248. While it's a lower grade, these examples are a bit tough to come by. PMG has graded a total of only 14 examples, with all but one in circulated grades from 30 to 58. Excerpted from Kravitz's "A Collector's Guide to Postage and Fractional Currency": With one exception, on all known Fr. 1248 notes the "O" and "63" are printed in a plain font style. The one exception has the surcharges printed in an ornate, old roman font style. Kravitz's opinion was that the single example with ornate font was genuine and all the others were forgeries.
