I just can't get a good feel for the colour with these up close shots, that's all I was saying. With different lighting and 30× zoom anything can look like anything. I'm not aware of any way a coin could be painted or plated post mint. Full coin photos front and back and weight would help me see what your seeing. The close ups don't help for something like this.

Are all your questions/photos of war-time US cents, which are steel-coated zinc? Zinc turns more whitish from the deep grey as it ages. The mint did nothing that you talk about and show for the 2 coins. Someone is just playing around.

Why is this in the Canadian section?

More importantly, what's all the hype about a painted cent, or a cent with environmental damage?

This is 43 that has been reprocessed. There are millions and million out there. Nothing unusual worth about 3 cents.
