I recently obtained this coin and the previous owner didn't know if it was real or not and I'd like to get a few opinions about it.
It's my understanding that there are some specific dates on these 8 Reales that are fake duplicates of the original silver coins. This coin weighs in at 22 grams.
Thanks in advance for any assistance. Dean

Though I dont know Reales all that well, I would assume if it's 5 grams underweight its probably no good. To me it looks like a poorly struck counterfeit or a poorly cast counterfeit & the damage looks unlike what would happen if it was a shipwreck coin. Also appears grainy on the surfaces. Though as these are not my expertise I will wait for an expert to chime in.
In the mean time what's the diameter for the coin?
I've been collecting for a couple years... Favorite Coin's are Standing Liberty quarters, Working on my type set | Coffee, Corvettes, Coins & the CCF what could be better?

Jake's Coins, thank you for your input.
I read that the tolerance on the weight could be as low as 22 grams and as you mentioned the coin looks well circulated.

Counterfeit, the casting is extremely mushy.
Suffering from bust half fever.
