I read the thread that is now locked about this ebay auctioneer, but I was too late, my order was already placed. I won a 1922 Peace dollar with the die crack under the neck and on the reverse, had the raised area through the rays under "Dollars". Of course he sent a regular ole 1922 Peace dollar instead of the coin pictured in listing. Nowhere in listing does it say it is a stock photo or not actually the coin you will receive. I messaged him and will give him a chance to make it right. A phone call will be next. Lesson learned, he will be blacklisted from now on. I will add the 1950-D nickels I received from him were as described, but I was more interested in the VAM Peace dollar for the money. Just giving an additional heads up to everyone. I will update this thread with his response to this situation. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

I purchased from Macvanderstein several times and always got what he had listed. Just wanted to add my experiences.

I just got off the phone with him and he wants me to send it back and he will look for the proper coin and says it may have gotten mixed up. I texted him the item number and told him to let me know if he has it before I send back and to reply through ebay so everything is done through their site. Again, I'm not bashing him, the 3 nickels on the same order we're just as described if not better! I'm just being completely transparent. Mods/admins, I apologize I put this thread in the wrong place. I'm still finding my way around the forum. Thank y'all and I do apologize again.

Do you have a link of the listing?
I don't have issues with this buyer, but usually you have to check his pictures carefully.

I use the app not sure on link, here's the item # 363847911542. The problem is, I checked the pictures and it is indeed not the coin due to lack of die crack on bottom neck and raising through rays under dollar on reverse. This coin has neither and is actually less luster and worse condition (not by much at all). Regardless, not the coin pictured. In his defense, it may just be a mixup as he sells tons of coins daily. Just hoping he makes this right.

I've gotten coins from this seller as well in the past and always received what I expected. I understand how upsetting it can be to not get what you expect, but hopefully it can get resolved. Based on initial response, it sounds hopeful.

I've had no issues with the seller in question--somewhere around 15 purchases total. Just my experience.

Update: spoke with him on the phone earlier and it ended up being an honest mistake between the photographer and the packaging person. He offered to refund and pay shipping back no problems. I told him I'd just hang onto it and throw it in my bullion cull pile. He just acquired an estate lot of 500 Peace dollars and will call me when he goes through it if he finds a similar VAM as was in the listing. We will square-up at a later date outside of ebay. Great communication. Called me when he said he would on numerous occasions. Will buy from him again just based off honesty and line of communication.

So, perhaps the title of this topic has a new meaning...?

Just like grading coins, it is subjective...
