William P. Hatcher

In lieu of a Christmas card while he was in Korea in 1952 for the War, Hatcher sent this stamped South Korean 100 Won banknote home for luck. He might have been the late Corporal William P. Hatcher of Bowling Green, KY in this link. Makes some sense as that is where I purchased the note from.

Has anyone seen Korean notes stamped like this before? I'm sure everyone in his unit probably did this. Also, has anyone seen that particular symbol that looks like a lightning bolt on the bottom of a 3-toed foot?

The symbol is the 25th Infantry Division patch atop the diamond emblem of the Army Finance Corps.

Cool. So what would be the significance of overlapping the 2 symbols? I suppose there would be finance clerks attached to the Division. My guess is they were bored and came up with a novel way for the troopers to send what amounted to a Christmas postcard back home.

It is more likely that Hatcher was attached to the Division Finance Office.

While this is the first time I have seen this specific overprint, Christmas messages on notes from the Korean War are not uncommon.
