Reverse image appears to show a reeding hit--NE of Cuba? Difficult to say given the pics posted.

It looks like the coin took a hit on the obverse, just above and right of the eye, possibly causing the damage on the reverse - it appears to be in the same location.

The spot just looks like a bit of damage.

Here's a Photoshop overlay of the Sally Ride quarter, just so we can see about where the obverse and reverse should line up.

The discoloration is on the coin. Not struck onto the coin by the die. (not a good thing)
