Quote: That's because in 2018 and 2019 26 different designs of 10p coin were issued, with letters of the alphabet from A to Z... Thank you for the background information.

Yes the Australians were not the first with that gimmick, but they did a WAY better job.

What I'd never noticed until it was pointed out to me is the varying numbers of vertical lines in the hologram (under the portrait) - they seem to vary by year.

Little update. Nothing much to report: I've now found three 2020 £1 coins. I got £30 in 50p coins from a bank I don't normally use when I was stuck in Canterbury for a couple of hours yesterday waiting for a bus (which never showed up, so I got the train home instead). There were only two commemorative 50p coins - a 2017 Tale of Peter Rabbit and a 2020 Brexit. I got six £2 coins in change from the vending machine at Canterbury train station and one was a commemorative - an Isambard Kingdom Brunel coin.

Looking good, apart from those annoying Alphabet 10ps and a few early 50ps - its cut and dry. Imagine how boring a complete NZ coin noodle would be.

I went to the bank today and got £250 in 50p coins, £20 in 20p coins, £30 in 10p coins, £40 in £1 coins, £60 in £2 coins and £1 in pennies. I was completely skunked with the 50p and £2 coins - not a single commemorative! It's fairly normal to get no commemoratives in 30 £2 coins, but this is the first time I've ever had a bag of 500 50p coins with no commemoratives! I would have expected about 30 in a batch this size. I imagine I must have had someone's dump, but the coin distribution seemed fairly normal otherwise. I did find two of the scarce 2017 'shield' definitive coins, which are scarcer than many commemoratives! The £1 and 20p coins held no surprises. The bag of pennies included only the third 2020 one I've ever seen, and there was a really nice 2001 that looked as if it had come straight from the Mint. Surprisingly, there was not a single 1971 penny. This is the first time I've sorted through a bag of 100 pennies and not found one! The 10p coins were more interesting! I tried to get more but they could only let me have £30 worth. I was very surprised and delighted to find two 2019 Alphabet coins - a C for Cricket and an X for X Marks the Spot. There were several 2020s and 2021s. Coins I am still looking for: 1p: 1981 10p: 2018 Alphabet A-S and U-Z. 2019 Alphabet: A, B, D-L, N-W, Y, Z. 20p: 1992 small head variety, 2020 (plus 2008 undated error mule) 50p. 2009 Kew Gardens, 2012 Olympics Football, Rowing and Tennis, 2020 Shield(?), 2022 Jubilee £2. 2002 Commonwealth Games (4 types), 2012 Olympic Handover, 2013 London Transport logo.

I went to the bank a few days ago and they had no 50p's! So instead I got some £2 coins, 20p's, 10p's and pennies. It's the first time I've ever got a £100 sack of 10p coins: I finished sorting through the coins today. It took a long time, despite assistance from Pablo: By and large it was all a bit disappointing. The 10p's were a weird selection, with a much higher than usual proportion of pre-2011 cupro-nickel coins. There were no alphabet coins but I did snag a couple of additions for my collection: a 2004 Falklands 10p and a 2001 Croatian 2 kune! I also found a 1998 Falklands 10p and a 2000 Gibraltar. The 20p's produced one addition to my collection - a 2016 Jersey. The £2 coins included a reasonable mix of commemoratives but nothing rare. The 1p coins contained nothing exceptional - but I did get the last coin I needed to complete a set of 1p coins from circulation - 1981. What's more, it was virtually Uncirculated with lots of lustre! Updated progress report: Note that the Jersey 5p in the above picture was found on the road by my local gas station yesterday! Coins I am still looking for: 10p: 2018 Alphabet A-L, N-S and U-Z. 2019 Alphabet: A, B, D-L, N-W, Y, Z. 20p: 1992 small head variety, 2020 (plus 2008 undated error mule) 50p. 2009 Kew Gardens, 2012 Olympics Football, Rowing and Tennis, 2020 Shield(?), 2022 Jubilee (and Pride?) £2. 2002 Commonwealth Games (4 types), 2012 Olympic Handover, 2013 London Transport logo.

I got £50 in 50p coins and £30 in 10p coins from the bank yesterday. Nothing especially exciting. The only commemorative 50p's, surprisingly, were two 2020 'Diversities'. Among the 10p's I found two 2008s with the lion reverse: in over 4,600 coins I'd only found 6 previously! Here is a summary of my 'noodling' as at November 5, 2022: Coins I am still looking for: 10p: 2018 Alphabet A-L, N-S and U-Z. 2019 Alphabet: A, B, D-L, N-W, Y, Z. 20p: 1992 small head variety, 2020 (plus 2008 undated error mule) 50p. 2009 Kew Gardens, 2012 Olympics Football, Rowing and Tennis, 2020 Shield(?), 2022 Jubilee (and Pride?) £2. 2002 Commonwealth Games (4 types), 2012 Olympic Handover, 2013 London Transport logo.
