I'm not really sure what kind of error is on this coin, I believe it either to be Machine Doubling or some kind of damage to the coin.

On the obverse (Side with lion) has the strangest error, The two wreaths surrounding the portrait have been doubled and completely seperated, one going into the crown on the top of the coin, but they are worn smooth, unlike most of the other features of the coin. There is also some strange issues near the rim of the coin. (Die polishing?)

On the reverse, There also seems to be a polished effect, But no signs of doubling that I can see.

Does anybody know what happened to this coin, And might it be possible to ask for a grade for it? Thanks.

It looks like severe Die Deterioration to me.

I would say it's Die Deterioration also ,you could see the orange peel effect on the fields a clear indication of die errosion

I would say your coin would be in the MS 60 to 61 grade the crown seems to be intact the higher points of the coin these crowns are similar to the Canadian crowns and I would assume that;s how you would grade these

I have a '78 rial with similar "orange peel" effect and nearly all the dentils are missing. I guess they just got the most out of their dies.
