Quote: My 1938 however is a much better piece and cost me $300 last year. Excellent.

Some nice coins there TM. Good work by PrinceTane. I joined the NZ half crown club this week. Some acquisitions from ebay. I just love the look of them, a fusion of tradition and culture. Not so fussed with the quality, although the 33 and 34 are fairly tidy. I can work my way into better versions as I progress.

Sweet additions ttkoo. Quality has never been high on my priority. I don't mind worn coins. They have served their purpose.

Here's another new piece I acquired a few days back. Here is a semi-key date 1935 Australian shilling in nice condition. This coin had a mintage of 500,000, which is similar to that of the 1915 florin. This coin has almost full lustre, and is definitely a great piece for my collection!

ttkoo - those half crowns are really good. The average grade for the silver ones is G - VG, your 1941 is a high Fine and the 33 and 34 are full VF. They are well above average examples. You would be amazed how bad they can get!
The later ones are Fine, which is average for the Cupronickel as it was a durable metal and those coins got used a lot as they did not make any halfcrowns or florins here between 1953 and 1961, so all those 1947 to 1951 ones, got used to death!
Coinanthebarb - that shilling is great, I love its shine - some really nice coins coming through on this page!

Quote: ttkoo - those half crowns are really good. thanks Princetane. I'm hooked now on these NZ half's. I have some more coming, two more 33's, another 34 and a 35. The 35 will give me the three KGV's. I didn't really want so many the same, but I bid on several auctions thinking I would get outbid on some, and no-one else put in a bid. Oh well, you can never have too many half's!

I have a surplus of 1946 halfcrown coins all in gVF, I think I should send you one. These are the last silver year of them and I could spare a couple of later ones in better grades. The 46's are shiny nice coins but have that horrible dark wear spots on the kings cheek and hair etc. The Reverses are perfect they take a long time to wear (Starting at gVF). You know a Kiwi halfcrown is VF when neither side of the Maori faces mouths are worn. If the left side is flat, your coin is fine, if both are it's VG or less. Send me an enote through this site with your address and I will send them off to you! All I want in return is the 1935 shilling you showed (Just kidding). None of my Aussie Shillings are at your level. My best pre 1938 is probably my 1910, 1917, 1934 and 1935 which are all VF to gVF and Florins, besides commems and post 1936s its my 1931 which is a dull EF. That is good as it gets for me!

Now I'm not sure if you're addressing the comments of the NZ Half Crowns to me, or to Coinanthebarb, because that 1935 shilling is his.(and I'm SURE he is willing to part with it! ) As it stands, I scored a 1946 on ebay today, which has those grey cheeks and hair you speak of, but very little wear on the Maori faces. The vendor pix are below Also picked up the rest of the set! except for the 1944, which seems to be a rarer coin. I'll spend some more time deciding which one is best for my collection. I wish someone had stopped me, because I couldn't put the handbrake on the ebay shopping cart!!! and she who must be obeyed is less than impressed! I'll post them here when they all arrive in the coming fortnight. p.s that 1931 florin is another great coin!. I have a full set (I think), but haven't had a chance to take a good look through them yet. When I do I'll puit some up here
