I picked this one out a dealers junk box many years ago. Never got around to photographing it.
Looking at the reverse pick , there sure does look like evidence of a D mintmark. Just for fun , that's what I will label it now. weight is 2.5G.

Complete coin splits sometimes happen.
They are usually the result of oil or some other liquid being incorporated by mechanical error during the rolling of the metal strip, before blanking.
A gross lamination flaw.

Better still are coin errors, where the coin is still barely holding together.
It seems that this coin easily escaped the Mint as a complete coin, and split many years later, in circulation. Wear provides evidence of the decades of circulation needed, to cause the split.

At about half of mint spec for weight, this coin is a fabulous error. Well done.

Thanks all !
Luckily that dealer considered it a damaged coin like the slick and bent seated stuff that was in the same box.

Wow!!!! What a wonderful pick-up...one person's junk is another person's split Buffalo nickel.
