NumisRob - you took the words out of my mouth! I also have one of those 1982 sets. But when I bought it, the plastic shell had turned yellow and split leaving the coins dropping out of it. I bought it around 2015 from a stamp club sale for like $3 or something. So I had to "rescue" the coins and as you can see, they held up fairly well but there is a few stains and the bronze has started to darken a bit (They live in mylar flips now). The next year 1983 saw a change to better quality plastic, although all of my 1980s British sets except 1987 are looking tired packaging wise. Australia also was still rocking the plastic folders in 1982 for their "Uncirculated" sets (Meaning "budget" grade ones) This one does not even have a closed top for the coins, although miraculously the coins have survived well.

Australia also issued this NCLT $10 silver coin The coin also showed sports and was similar to the 50 cents. I brought 2 examples cheap a few years ago. Again the vinylette packaging leaved a lot to be desired, the coins were okay but "sticky" from the packaging. Again as this coin was the budget grade, you got what you paid for and that was rubbishy cheap PVC laden packaging. The better grade proof you got a ring box which was better, but the coin needed to stay in its capsule as the white fluff/velvadrape stuff aorund the coin capsule would stain and tone too (Was anything sacred from decay in the 80s? ) My 1988 poof First Fleet silver coin was in one of these. The 60s to the mid 80s was honestly the worst era for packaging coins. Finally the total Australian output of bubblegum in this era was 1 x $10 silver coin and 1 x $200 gold coin each year from 1980.)

You take really good photos! I just wish I could, my phone is unsteady and the scanner produces dull images.
