Here's a coin I like for its advanced state of die wear. On the obverse, it appears the top right 1/4 of the die is about to break off.  How many individual die cracks can you find?   |

This is interesting too--a little comparison of the 1/12 Anna versus a Cartwheel penny: The 1/12 Anna weighs 1.6gr (about half of a bronze Lincoln Cent), and the Cartwheel weighs 28.6gr (a Morgan dollar is 26.7gr)  (shot as a group, photo larger than real life but proportion is exact) |

I know it's rare on Australia and Canada coinage to have this many--but I don't know about India. My Cartwheel has a nice crack on the reverse too. I don't know how this affects value...more of a curiosity. |

I wouldn't have a clue about frequency of this error on these coins, I am always wondering about such things
however. I have an Irish Bank Shilling with a few of them I haven't counted them all yet, it's located in the Main coin forum somewhere..

Looking through my George V Indian coins, it seems die cracks are pretty common, on the silver coins as well. Kurt, I just bought a part roll of 1929 1/12 anna coins, I have some for you to add to your collection of die cracks. Nearly all of them have cracks and other issues, clipped planchets, lamination peels, die fills etc. I will send you a few with my next package. As a bonus, all of them are uncirculated. Here are some pics, this is one of the coins I am sending you. The first one is a little over exposed to better show the cracks, as I still haven't got a macro lens yet  The second one is pretty close to perfect for colour. I have three of these spare, all with cracking to some degree, if anyone would like one, send me a PM. First in, first served.    |
