Argent2 On Edge Of A Medal

Does anyone here know what the difference is between "Argent,1Argent and 2argent"......I know that Argent is silver,but whats with the 3 different types....


I have a medal With 2argent on the edge and was curious!

I read a long time ago the the different numbers indicated different purities of the metal, in this case silver. Sorry that I don't have the article at hand but I'm fairly certain that's the meaning.

Hello,
Yes, argent is silver. The numbers stand for purity of the silver.
1 stands for .920, 2 is for .840 and 3 is for .750. Just a little something I picked up from purchasing french coins and jewelry. Kind Regards, rcpigs
