Pulled out a pill container that was in storage for about 40 years and found the top coin with apparent plastic contact toning. It is obvious that the top one was sacrificial as it is the only 1970's penny in the container. There is dramatic difference between the obverse and reverse sides of that coin and I presume it is because the obverse was tight against the soft plastic cap but I do not know - opinion requested. I think Dad just pulled a shiny penny that had some character to take the contact toning but I have no idea. In any event, the rest of them aged well. Top coin: Reverse has some "issues" - weak strike/bashes and what looks like a counting machine swirl or something of the like. Coin stored directly under the '75in the bottle: Lid: A couple of shots of the rest: *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

Did you add a pair of glasses to Lincoln on the coin just to the left of center?

All of the '82's are copper in this lot. I thought the small date/large date difference was noticeable in the 2nd to last pic on the center two coins, but I didn't notice it until I posted it. I did not notice the "glasses", kiteray, but now that you pointed it out, I can't stop seeing it. Great catch and sort of comical.

Quote: Nice group and nice Spock reference. Thanks jbuck. After seeing your post, I thought I'd give my heirs something to ponder so I flipped it and marked it. If it shows up here again in a few years, hopefully someone will have the answer as to what constitutes a "Spock" penny

WOW! I love those end toners! I have quite a few myself. The bigger the contrast between the obverse and reverse the BETTER. I rinse them with acetone and put into airtites for the long term. A quality coin like this deserves an airtite IMO. I'm banking on some future collector thanking me/us.

I noticed that, but I was overthinking what would be a proper Easter egg. Quote: After seeing your post, I thought I'd give my heirs something to ponder so I flipped it and marked it.
