1964 D Lincoln Penny - Strike Error Or Damage?

KyWahine New Member United States 45 Posts	Posted 09/11/2022 8:05 pm This Lincoln Penny seemed ordinary when I was looking at the obverse side, but when I turned it over there was obviously something different about this coin. I have tried to look up what type of error that this could be, but soon became overwhelmed with all the new terminology. While researching, I ended up on types of striking errors, but then thought maybe I was looking to hard and that this coin my be damaged. Am I heading in the right direction with this coin? KyWahine New Member United States 45 Posts	Posted 09/11/2022 8:43 pm It is some kind of paint and some kind of residue attached to the paint on the reverse. I took a needle and scraped off some of it. It's caked on pretty good. I was afraid to scrub it or clean it, because I read that it isn't good to clean the coins. The better the photos you post the better we can help you. 100% pure acetone,not standard nail polish remover works well. Read up on it before using it in the search box here on CCF. Cujohn Pillar of the Community United States 7174 Posts	Posted 09/12/2022 4:16 pm to the CCF Paint. And you're right about never clean coins, but in this case, it's not going to hurt. If you need to clean a coin, 100% acetone or distilled water won't harm a cent. Report this Post to the Staff
