Hi,

The bank had 5 rolls of halves, so I took them & found this one. I thought I had a silver when I opened the roll. Then I took it out & looked at the date. 1971. The edge looks silver, but there are problems. It has a shiny proof like finish & some kind of film on it. I have not tried to clean it & the weight 11.27. a bit off. Is this a real coin or was it made in someone's basement in eastern europe!

My first thought is it's plated.

Plated or painted--wearing away.

Probably plated. Not a good job at that.

If you think you have a valuable coin that is the worst possible way to hold a coin in the first picture. The oil's from our fingers can leech/etch into the coin leaving a permanent finger print.
