Buying Junk Silver

i think the general consensus is 10x face value. I'm sure you can negotiate for less with cull or dateless coins. I usually pay between 50-55 for a roll of dimes.

I used to have a book that showed how to make silver jewelry out of old "junk silver" coins by hammering them flat and cutting the sheet. Now one would be better off using virgin silver sheet....it's cheaper.

"Take 0.715 X Face X Spot. For example, if you're buying $10 face value junk silver:

0.715 X $10 X $13.22 = $94.52"

That is a quote from bherring1964. You can live or die by it!

So if you got a half dollar today (3/7/09)->0.715 x $0.50 x $13.33 = $4.76

Clever fellow that bherring guy - basically take face value and multiply by 0.715 and then by how much ever money you have.

Heck, someday there might even be a better mousetrap!!
