It's interesting that you refer to that 1989 MORs as an "impaired proof". Over the years I have found several MORs (mainly 1984 and 1991) that are worn yet have "underlying lustre" which made me wonder it they started off their lives as proofs.

In my opinion "underlying lustre" sounds a little too broad for proofs, but just for the record I use the term "impaired proof" to describe a "circulated proof" coin.

What makes you think that 1989 coin came out of a proof set and not an uncirculated mint set?

Simple: the 1989 coin still has a lot of shiny remnants that look like it started out as a proof. Uncirculated coins don't have these shiny remnants. I can attach a comparison pic if you want ...

Better description than "underlying lustre" but we are talking about the same thing. Hard to get a good photo of it though to convince people who haven't seen a coin like that "in the flesh".

As requested by crab eater, here is a comparison pic of the aforementioned circulated 1989 $1 proof with a lightly circulated 1984 $1.

OzCollection, as I said in the post above yours, I know exactly what you mean and have several coins like that.

Thanks for the pic OzCollection, I was hoping you were comparing two 1989 coins side by side, one uncirculated and one proof. Both that have been found noodled. That would surely show the difference.

WEEK 12(17/04/23 - 23/04/23) Unfortunately I have not had a lot of time to noodle but I have had time to purchase. This means that this week's coins have all been bought at a premium. Onto the Australian side first. I bought a 2021 letter P, letters G, R, and S from 2022, and an F from 2021 (not shown) to upgrade the previous stained one. (enjoy the shininess before my PVC Amazon coin album begins the damage Meanwhile foreign coins wise, I bought all these: Stats:One dollar coins still to find: 19/41 (22) NCLT coins found: 5
