Well folks, this guy seems determined to sell SOMETHING that he says is a 1913-S T2 Buffalo nickel. After ebay took his ad down HE SIMPLY RE-LISTED IT! Yep - it's back up and this time he has a BIN price of $500. Here it is: http://cgi.ebay.com/1913-S-Type-2-5...OL_W0QQitemZ170309326771QQihZ007QQcategoryZ139807QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Done. Less than 2 hours.

The saga contnues! ebay de-listed him AGAIN and he came back a third time, this time with a totally fuzzy photo of the nickel. Check it out: http://cgi.ebay.com/1913-S-Type-2-5...OL_W0QQitemZ170309466137QQihZ007QQcategoryZ139807QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

daviscfad: The link you posted for us to look at has been de-listed. I wonder how soon before the guy makes a minor change and puts it back up...?

I guess I really don't get why ebay can't see that this guy is up to no good and shut him down rather than just let him tweak his ads and keep popping back up like one of those "whack-a-mole" carnival games...

That's what I have been saying. Be done with this guy already. How many times do we have to see this guys listings. Remember the movie "Casino" when Robert Deniro says "they keep sneaking back into the casinos with fake noses and beards". You saw what happened. That's how tough ebay has to be

I can't access the third listing. Gone in less than 40 mins, not bad on a Sunday.

The ad went down a third time - now it's back with yet another photo. Maybe we should give this guy a break. Maybe he simply has has SO MANY 1913-S T2's that he just keeps getting them confused.....?

Nah!

I have a secondary user name, I am half tempted to use buy it now and have the dummy charged the fees and have to fight ebay back for the money and leave him a negative feedback. LOL!
But I won't. 2 wrongs don't make a right.

I am actually doing my level best to "torture" the creep. I have been sending him emails letting him believe I'm right on the brink of sending him $500 if I can just get a little more information. I just asked him to confirm that he can see all 4 digits in 1913 on the side that has the buffalo....

Here's what he had to say:

"Ok it doesn't have the date on it but how I know its a 1913 is because I bought it from a coin shop that has ALL AUTHENTIC coins and the guy had all his nickles and old coins in order by date...and the 1913 was the last of all the old nickles he had...i had this coin for 4 years and I kept it in a good place so I know that this one is my 1913."

What do you want to bet it's actually a Type 1....?

Keep it up! Sooner or later hopefully he'll fall of the edge of the Earth and we won't hear from him anymore.

I told him I was sorry about taking up so much of his time.... Here's his latest comment to me: "It doesn't show the date..sorry....But I can lower the price to $200 or $150.......Oh and dont be worried about taking up any time....i dont really have much to do today anyway."

I wonder if he'd go for...... oh...... $50.00?

If I am abusing this forum by going on and on about whacky stuff on ebay I'm sorry. And if someone tells me to stop, I absolutely will, but unless that happens, I want you all to check this next one out:

http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-1918-17-BU...ER_W0QQitemZ350136701299QQihZ022QQcategoryZ139807QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Here's a guy who is not technically going against any ebay policy (at least I don't think he is) but he is purposely misleading sellers when the first thing you see is a clear, clean, sharp photo of a 1918/7 D overdate. What he is actually selling, at the greatly reduced (ha-ha-ha-giggle-giggle-snort!) price of ONLY $1232.50, is an acid dated coin!

Now - I don't mean to bash ebay out of existence because, truth be told, it provides me my only viable option for selling my coins. I also do not mean to bash folks who sell restored (acid dated) Bufalo Nickels because...well...that's pretty much most of what I sell, too. But what this guy is doing is just plain old....treacherous. In my opinion, what this guy is doing is even worse than the idiot trying to sell the dateless 1913-S T2 nickel because the guy selling the overdate probably is not technically violating any ebay law.

I have AUCTIONED some gorgeous (my opinion only - and I acknowledge that I'm somewhat of a bottom feeder when it comes to what I sell) fully restored overdates that had a lot of VF characteristics and I never got more than $309.00 for any of them. If this guy manages to swindle somebody for a Buy It Now price of $1232.50 on THIS coin, I may just go stark raving crazy.

(Wish I could channel that into something constructive!!)

Well...he does say "restored date", but the photos leave a lot to be desired for that $1235 BIN. I don't see overt fraud here.

That said, I'm mixed on ebay because the place is marketed as a friendly, safe buying environment.
However, in reality--it's just like buying stuff at a flea market from nameless sellers--who you may never see again.
You better know your stuff, or don't be surprised when you get burned. (imo)

Okay...so back to the original low-life ebay seller (a female, if you believe the name I'm getting along with the emails from "her") He emailed me and said that he'd lower the price to between $150 and $200 if I was interested. At this point, I stopped responding. After about 12 more hours he sends another email and says he'd consider dropping it to between $90 and $130 and that I should just make him an offer. So, at that point I sent him an email telling him that I think I have an email problem and haven't been getting his emails and that I have to make a decision soon. So he writes back to me, lickety-split (<-- that's old-speak for REAL FAST), that he can definitely LOWER the price to $200. He also says he has a bid on it, so the Buy It Now has disappeared from his ad, but that he'd be willing to cancel the ad and just sell it outright to me. (Wonder what ebay would think of that?) My next step will be to write him and tell him that because he didn't respond I had to buy another nickel at a higher price!
