I have 6 of the 1997 Silver Eagle 1oz fine silver dollar that are in cases I don't think that they have been out of the cases - I dont even know how to open and don't plan on tryin. How can you tell if they are uncirculated? There are no scrathes on the coins at all just wear on the case. Can you help me by grading it and telling me what it is worth? Are they coins that I should keep or ar they something that is not a big deal? Haven't found alot of info on them- just what in RedBook.

Just don't know if I need 6 of them!

Thanks

Hi ameadows - ASE do not circulate so it's safe to assume you have uncirculated coins. The Air-Tite holder you've imaged is not Original Government Packaging (OGP) and can be easily opened by prying apart the two sides.

This is a silver bullion coin struck by the U.S. Mint. Other ASE are considered collector's coins (proof and unc) but most are like yours and and valued at the spot price of silver plus a premium since they're a highly desired form of bullion that is universally recognized and guaranteed by the U.S. gov't as containing 99.9% silver.

Current market price for these is about $18 each so they're well worth keeping!
