Hi! Please, can anyone help me with the ID of this gold coin? It is mounted in a medallion,I know, but what country it is & what actual year? I see the AH 1227 but this doesn't match with any ottoman sultan accession year...So,not Turkey! Toughra is missing too! Thank you! Sorry for the cropped images,as to be under300kb.
You are having difficulty finding it, because it isn't actually a coin.
It says "struck in Constantinople" in Arabic, so it is a design based off of Turkish coins. However, it says this on both sides - you have a "coin with two tails", with reverses from two differetn Ottoman gold coins. The date in the top pic is supposed to read "1327", which is the accession year of Mehmed V, though the 2 and 3 are a bit garbled in the top pic
I suspect it is a medal made to look like a coin, rather than a copy of a coin inserted into a medal.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
