So Exactly what does 30% Finning look like ?

We know what it looks like...Our medals I think 30% is exactly the right % number, as our fins run from K11 to K3, K12 to K3 would be exactly 25%.
The question now could be; have they found rim fins on both sides yet?

Eagleb7, I'm Not convinced the % of Finning is Clear. My Two Examples differ. They Both have Twin sided Vertical raised Finning, Just the Obverses have the Larger Arc of medal. Check out the Non reeded edge, See how the Gouges seen in the Above pictures are Shiny and some are Gouged, John has a More severe Gouging Too. That Gouging is Severe, I'm suggesting there are Probably More Medals that have the % 's Larger that the seen Medals. My examples differ in Strikes and metal flow along the edges. Both have the Severe Extreme Pressure Gouges present !!! My question is along the Die State lines. How advanced were the % of raised metal. Are there Larger % medals out there. ? I'll Wait....

Your suggesting We have some of the Largest/Tallest Arc's Found ? Not sure of that Yet.... ............

This is disappointing. Some of last years 1 oz silver Liberty medas had the same problem, the capsule on mine will not close all the way due to finning. Wonder if it's defective planchets being sold to the Mint or it happens at the Mint during production.

Received the US Army 2.5 oz medal this morning. It appears to have "finning" issues as described and pictured in this thread. Looked at it under 5x magnification. FWIW, the capsule is closed.

Pulled mine back out and oh my, I didn't look close enough, because why would I think it would happen again, you're correct cptbilly. cptbilly, you might want to look at you capsule again as mine is barely open. Mine has a fin, on one side only this time, which explains why the capsule is only slightly open. Fin starts at K12, running to K5, so runs even longer than the Marine medal fin. What are the odds of getting this 2 years in a row?

Ok when I first saw this topic I thought, Ya just a fluke. You guys made me go back and look at mine. I put everything under the scope, so I didn't see anything, just a perfect medal. Didn't look at the edge. Well both of my USMC medals have the wide edge. One is about the same 30%. The other is about 60%. My USA medal is right. Then you made me look at my 2 liberty medals, both of them are tapered. I'm wondering if it's a tilted die?

OK, my Army medal has it in the SAME location, And my Navy also has it but it is a bit lower.
I'll post up images in a bit (dinner time now)
I'll check on my Coast Guard and Air Force medals tomorrow (getting too dark to get good images.)
