Is this texture caused from the planchet being defective? I'm a computer professional out of curiousity why do they limit image size to 300K? that's like a 90s thing.

Well it has a lot to do with the amount of storage space. With the amount of images that get uploaded every day (and I'm sure Bobby or a mod can say how many) I would be willing to bet that the drives could fill up quite quickly, imagine if the file size was limited to 1M (using this number for ease of the math needed) and 100 people all posted up 2 images everyday for a month, how much space would that take up for the month, how about a year? on a FREE site?
I find that 300K suits me just fine and I have no degradation of the images I post here (have a look at some of my images - just click on a link in my sig below.)

Anyway, on your coin, I doubt that this is a planchet flaw, with the amount of pressure needed to press out a half dollar, the die would impart its own design onto the planchet. (for the fields, that would be smooth)
But if and when the die is over used, it heats up, it stretches and shrinks over and over again. this creates ripples and 'radial flow lines' on it, which would be transferred to the planchet.

Take a flat piece of copper or aluminum and bent it back and forth a couple hundred times, and before it breaks apart, lay it out flat and examine at the bent area looks like.
The marks on your coin looks like (to me) just die wear.

Didn't Bobby once post a "great" photo that was under 100kb?

Would like to see a complete photo of both sides but was wondering
if it could have been plated which could cause the ripples.

Heat can cause toning and "wrinkles." Perhaps it was exposed to high heat during its life.

How it was altered is not the issue. The damage to the coin is the issue. It is not the way the surfaces were during the strike. Looks like all surfaces are showing the same event. We will see die wear on the fields by normal die use. But the tops of all the surface is showing the affected surfaces. The devices appear normal sized. So this coin was from a normal die, but post circulation altering that we are seeing. Whether heat or acid dip, it is affected post strike and damaged. Not a plus for the coin. Just face value regardless of how it happened. (Could even have been altered more than once)
