Quote: This may become something that I do on Friday nights consistently though, allowing me to average 5 boxes per week. Wow, 5 boxes a week? That's dedication! All I can say is For what it's worth, I'm probably averaging 2 boxes a week, spread over pennies and nickels. Cheers! EDIT: I checked my records - it looks like I've actually been averaging 3.5 boxes a week of any denomination since January. So not quite 5 boxes, but I'm a little surprised by how much I've been doing.

This is definitely something I'm on board with. Here in SoCal, the find patterns are quite different... need to total up my obsolete and proof nickel finds so I can give you a complete idea of my history... I stop counting at 1959 and also keep track of 2009s found. Below are my Jefferson nickel totals through 4-17-23. I've been at this for more than seven years now... a little over 1.5 million nickels searched.

Good morning Coin Roll Hunters! I searched 10,000 nickels last night in a sitting, which took 7 hours. I will probably not be doing that again and will most likely stick with no more than 6,000 nickels in any one sitting. Anyhoo, I did find three more nickels that I needed for my 1938-1961 Jefferson set! Including a very nice replacement of a 1945-P, photo pending. I did buy a $40 digital microscope off of Amazon to help with dating coins if needed, and it has helped . For $40 ya can't go wrong. Below is the list of what I found last night along with a chart of the nickels found so far in 30,000 nickels searched. 1 - 1938-P 8 - 1939-P 8 - 1940-P 1 - 1940-D 3 - 1940-S 9 - 1941-P 1 - 1941-D 4 - 1941-S 1 - 1942-P (Silver) 2 - 1945-P (Silver) 1 - 1945-S (Silver) 7 - 1946-P 1 - 1946-S 7 - 1947-P 1 - 1947-D 1 - 1948-P 2 - 1948-D 4 - 1949-P 1 - 1949-D 1 - 1950-P 4 - 1952-P 1 - 1952-D 1 - 1952-S 2 - 1953-P 2 - 1953-D 3 - 1954-P 7 - 1954-D 1 - 1955-P 5 - 1955-D 2 - 1956-P 4 - 1956-D 3 - 1957-P 10 - 1957-D 2 - 1958-P 12 - 1958-D 3 - 1959-P 14 - 1959-D Also found 2 dateless Buffalo nickels. Nic-o-date revealed a 1920 P on the one. Foreign coins included 15 Canadians and 1 from the Bahamas. Like I had mentioned in a previous post, I had searched through 8,000 nickels back in the winter of 2012-2013. Below are the remining coins that I need to find to complete my set. 1939-S 1939-D 1942-S 1943-D 1944-S 1945-D 1946-S I don't have much to fill, but I know that this is going to take quite a bit more time. I am bracing myself for going through several tens of thousands of nickels and not finding what I am after. IT will all come with time I suppose!

Persistency is the key. Eventually, you'll find them all if you just keep at it... that's one of the biggest allures of Jeffersons. No other series can say that - though I've somewhat surprisingly gotten within four coins of completion on my silver Roosevelt set built through CRH, circulation and Coinstar finds.
I completed my first Jefferson set way back in high school into college 30+ years ago, working for Taco Bell as a cashier. Took me almost three years, but I did it! The fact that it can still be done today is quite remarkable, to be honest.

John77 -- this is exactly why I started searching nickels for the fact that it can somewhat realistically be completed. I went through 980,000 pennies back in 2013 with my now wife and we found all but 7 of the 1909-1958 wheat cents. Having went through 30,000 nickels this month I have an entire new appreciation for the couple of boxes that I searched back in 2014. Not only did I find a beautiful 1950-D in my first box, but also a 1937 buffalo and two V nickels, early 1900s dates, along with several semi key dates. I now know that I was very, very lucky with that first box.

interesting stats, thanks for posting them, other stats suggest you need to search about 250,000 to complete a Jefferson set
minor item, maybe a typo: you have 1946-S shown in both the found and unfound lists
