It is really cool that you are keeping track of what you find. I hope that you find the rest of the nickels for your folder.

With the money value of your time it would have cost you much less just to buy the nickels you need. But I understand you enjoy this.

One could say something like this to those who hunt and fish. I do not see them stopping any time soon.

jbuck, it just so happens that I do hunt and fish and you are correct with your statement. It is about the thrill of finding these in the wild.

I just got done going through 6,000 nickels and will be searching another 4,000 tomorrow. I found my second 1939-S so far this year.

I will do a separate 10,000 nickels searched update tomorrow, which brings me to 40,000 searched so far.

It's always a thrill to find one of the five key date Jeffersons... you're one up on me on that date this year and I've gone through many more nickels than you. Congrats, nickelguy88!

Dang buddy!

10,000 nickels in one sitting... that's a lot of time on your hands!

Fascinating! The most coins I've ever searched in a single session is 1,000!

The cull V nickel that I spent in a slot machine in Florida two years ago hasn't come your way yet!

I searched another 10,000 nickels over the past two days. I found one nickel that I needed, a 1945-D

I did find a really good 1908 Liberty V nickel, my first in this 40,000 in this journey to complete the 1938-1961 Jefferson set

Also found two buffalos, a dateless and a very beat up 1937

As mentioned in a previous post a started on this collection back in 2014 and went through 8,000 nickels and got a great head start. I even found a 1950-D in my very first box. I had the impression that this would be easy after the first couple of boxes where I found multiple buffalos and 4 Liberty nickels. Unfortunately I was still a novice to this hobby and did not track the data as I am now, so for the reason I am only focusing on my findings since I started keeping track of my finds. The true total searched is 48,000 for what I have in my book.

I did find two foreign coins, a 1961 Dominican Republic 5 Centavos and a what I believe is a Japan 50 yen. It is a coin with a hole in the middle.

I still need to find the following

1938-S
1939-D
1942-S
1943-D
1944-S

I am still uploading to my youtube channel and will post the links to the videos of this search once they are processed.

I am not sure at this time when I will be able to find the time to search again. Most likely I will probably do a power search through 16,000 nickels or 8 boxes. I could complete this in roughly 12-14 hours.

You searched 10,000 nickels and found just one you needed?

With such improbable, wild odd against you, why do you spend your time like this?

What's the best nickel you might hope to find?

It seems like the very definition of ...

to the CCF!

Not necessarily... I've gotten to the point where I can very easy get through 1,000 nickels in well under an hour without much of an effort. When I make my big purchases, it's usually about 15K coins total of all denominations. Rarely does it take me more than 12 hours, usually spread over two days, to get through all of them.

That's about the same amount of time that it takes me to get through a similar number of nickels... the key is to stay focused, without distraction.
