Thank you for your replies, Mike and CoinForMe.

When I buy certified coins I don't care about FDI, First Strike, etc. I buy MS-69 or MS-70 because I want coins that have been professionally graded at near perfect or perfect.
CAC (Certified Acceptance Corporation) apparently certified coins that had already been graded and determines if the coin falls into the upper or lower end of the grade. Eventually the company began grading coins (CACG).

Some slabbed coins, Looking at the 2026 Congratulations sets on the Bay are presently selling that OGP sets for approx $350.

While I see more pre-order Slabs with all kinds of labels selling for Approx $700+.

There is a Perfect example of my point, The same Exact coins, sell for Double the OGP, ....

People love Slabs,...

PS, Ever notice the "old school " collectors have coins in a Pre Auction notice of a Raw super old U S Coinage and the next time the coin is seen in an Auction catalog its slabbed for sale & gathers Much More revenue, I have....

I see your reply about the labels,

I want to be clear I own Hundreds of slabbed coins, Bought for the residents.

I am not casting any opinions upon others, Collect what you will.

Gary, Do the labels you mention cost more than other labeled same coins ?

Hi Mike,
I've read that the CAC green labels do add to the value of the coin.

An interesting side note, John Albanese started CAC. He is a cofounder of PCGS and founder of NGC.

For me, CAC stickering can be a very helpful "new set of eyes" on the coin verifying the solid grade given (green bean) or possibly elevating it to the next grade (gold bean).
In today's coin market, slabbed coins are (1) an authentication of the coin as real and not counterfeit (2) a grade given by a professional grader ( this does not mean that I agree with the grade at all times nor would someone else, but rather that it was examined and certified at this grade) which is important if selling and (3) an excellent way to store and protect coins.

I also prefer a somewhat expensive $300+ coin that I buy to be encapsulated in a slab.
I would be careful about buying an expensive raw coin; many have been returned with rated problems, then cracked out of holders for sale.

I agree with what has been said. I've never doubted the authenticity of a slabbed coin.

I see the concerns posted about raw coins being problematic,

not possibly authentic, etc.

One of my points I am trying to make, I am old school, Most of My treasures were found, Researched, checked the sellers history since knowing them and pulled the trigger Then, Bought the example sought.

My point is Many more old school collectors out there like myself did buy RAW, We learned and had only ourselves, which led to self research and experience, I have personally purchased Thousands of Coins.

So possibly some of the Raw coins I bought were or are fake, Highly doubt it, I am Sure. Except the Chinese Fakes I bought and Knew were Fakes.

Slabs do have their place in Today's market places, Not all slabs have Authentic examples in them, I have seen them being faked Here before.

Interesting how IF an Auction house takes on Your collection, They Immediately Suggest Slabbing the Prized coins Too. !!!! Buyer Beware....

I have considerably more raw coins than certified. I do not have the years of experience that most members have so I need to be more careful when buying coins.
When it comes to online vendors I have bought the majority of my raw coins from APMEX. I trust them completely.
When I buy raw coins on ebay I always go with a seller that has tens of thousands of transactions and a 99% + rating. I always look for sellers that I have used several times before.

You're welcome, Mike. It's all good.
Since I collect 1 oz silver coins the days of paying under $100 per coin are over.
I have most of the 2026 coins I need but I'm waiting for the Swan and Libertad to be released. Hopefully the Mexican Mint won't pull the same stunt they did with the 2025 Libertad.
