Back in 2001 did the mint release a silver proof coin that has the indian head and buffalo on it? The last time I was at the local coin shop I thought I saw one bu tthe gentleman wanted almost and arm and a leg for it. I forgot to ask him about it and it has been bugging me for sometime. I tried to surf the net for one but I come up empty. Thanks all. Dan
Yup, the mint did. And yeah, it does cost an arm and a leg (about $100 or so the last time I checked) because in the end there were ... 24k UNCs and 42k proofs minted...
Get you Red Book, flip to the end, and it'll be there.
Not to be confused with the 2001 mint issued commem, there are also bullion rounds with a similar design but obviously no denomination and they usually have "One Troy Ounce of .999 Silver" or something to that effect as part of the design.
That's the coin in my avatar (it's also the avatar for several other members). It sold out the 500,000 allotment in 10 days, hence the current high prices. I have the Uncirculated version.
