The coin I received is a mint error. It is minted showing "2 pounds" on the obverse. The RM confirmed it is an error, but would not say how many were minted/released. Same weight as one marked 5 pound, so must have been minted on the 5 pound silver planchet. No information online about this error. I am a fairly new collector and wondered if this error might end up being worth something? Should I get it graded, simply hold on to it or anything else I should do at this point? Thanks so much for guidance.

Start be posting a few good photos. If genuine it probably needs to be slabbed. John1

My assumption is the 2 pound obverse was minted on the 5 pound reverse, since the weight is the same as the correctly minted 5 pound coin. However..... I am a true beginner of coin collecting!

It appears to be a mule coin? The incorrect 2 pound obverse is on the 5 pound reverse (the 5 pound planchet). That is my "non-expert" thought. Thanks so much for checking it out.

That would be a "mule", yes. The 2 pound obverse is intended for 1 ounce silver Britannia coins; the 5 pound is intended for cupronickel and silver proof coins. So the wrong obverse die was used to make this coin, thus, a "mule".

Thank you for your help, Sap. I still find nothing online about this mule coin. Would you recommend it be graded and slabbed? Or is it a coin to simply keep in the original packaging?

For me and I hope this makes sense . If it was just a 2 pound or a 5 pound coin I would elect to keep it in original packaging as collectors of all things do like original issue packaging and there would be many coins of both in the PF69-70 band so slabbing wouldn't be worth it unless there were no pf70's . This is totally different as this is a Mule coin and extremely valuable if numbers are in the handfuls and needs to be classified as such so for me its a must to be properly catalogued and registered at one of the TPG's . Great find

Patriot, if proven correct this is a very rare find and absolutely needs to be slabbed. You've hit a jackpot!

Thank you so much, zookeeperz and Hondo, for sharing your knowledge with me!! I have never submitted a coin for grading, so I will start my research on that. It will be so interesting to some day know how many of these coins are found. I would like to thank everyone in this community for all that you do. As a fairly novice collector I spend hours reading the topics and answers, and I continue to learn so much. I hope all of you know how much you are appreciated!

Why does it need to be slabbed, necessarily? I think it would be better to keep it in its original packaging.

Argh... I have four of these and I just checked them, all are 5 pounds. I could have retired on the proceedings if they were like yours.

Pavka14 - I'm sorry you do not have one! I still cannot find any information online regarding this mule coin, so I truly have no idea how many were released or value.

Hello friends, I had the 2022 QE II mule coin certified and slabbed. So happy it came back PR70! I have no idea what the value might be. There is one other of said mule coin graded by NGC. No idea if there are others out there. Any wisdom you can share on......How does a person ascertain what the value might be? greatest value now or waiting a few years? if decide to sell, best avenue for that? Thanks so much!
