@cole, this looks to me like surface staining, perhaps due to chemical exposure. Any chance of you posting a picture of the front of this coin? Thx. If you tried to already, then it might be because you have named both picture files with the same filename.

Any chance of reporting an accurate weight? That would tell us if this is damage to a normal quarter or a clad missing quarter.

I suspect environmental damage/staining but an accurate weight would provide a definitive answer.
