Every Morgan dollar is a VAM. The "basic" coin for each year and mintmark is VAM 1. Here is a 1900 VAM 5B - PCGS OGH MS64 The "5" indicates that this is variety #5 catalogued; the B is the die state - in this case, the diagnostic for the "B" state is a large die chip in the left reverse wreath across from the I in UNITED. A 1900 VAM 15A -- This is called "extra hair curl" because of the "threadlike impression" to the left of the ear hair curl between that and the eye. 1900-O VAM 25C - PCGS MS64. The "C" state features a large reverse die break and die chips all around UNITED STATES. The breaks resulted in what they call "field displacement." A very special Morgan dollar - "1900-O" VAM 5. One in a series of contemporary counterfeit coins.
