We have been expecting this, so thankfully it is not a surprise. Sometime between 1:00 and 2:30 my dad passed away at the nursing home he was in. We were told last week it could be any time, but a whole year ago we were told the same thing when he was home.
My initial thoughts were relief b/c he kept saying he hated how everyone had to wait on him and all he could do was sleep and eat. I was with him beginning last Friday until yesterday AM. Basically he was just sleeping all the time since Monday.
He had a good and busy life during his 87 years. All the time growing up he took me way back into the Canadian wilderness for fishing...back far enough you never see another person or sign anyone has been there. He taught me outdoor skills. He had me, growing up, as his hunting and fishing buddy.
He also was a saved man, so I know I will see him again someday. Thankfully last week he was able to meet his most recent great grandson before he left us.

I am sorry to hear this news. My mom passed away in May; similar age and circumstances as your dad - i.e, a life well lived. It still hurts and you miss them regardless. Best wishes to you and your family.

i am so utterly sorry for your loss. He sounds like a good man who lived a full life surrounded by those he loved and those who loved him. Your relationship with him I'm sure is an envy to many. Myself included. Cherish the memories you shared with him and he will never be further away than your heart.
