I was amused to find a US penny included in my Mohs hardness test kit:

US-Penny-In-Mohs-Hardness-Test-Kit

The coin was a 2018 D which I believe is nothing special and therefore can be consigned to its new purpose of scratching and being scratched.

That is pretty funny. I'd probably swap out for an all copper cent (for the US, pre-1982) though since as soon as you scratch this one, the exposed zinc core will start to degrade.

Maybe that is the point
Is that a soap stone in slot 10? and glass in 11. I suppose you are supposed to use each numbered rock to see which would scratch the stone and glass.

Depending on the type, glass ranks around 5.5 to 7 Mohs. And whoever ranked fingernails that low has never encountered my big toe nail.

The problem is the coin is zinc with copper plating, the hardness is going to be more like zinc.
