This kind of dovetail's into @raynac's post. Why are there so few modern circulation strike coins posted on the forum for grading ?
Is it as @Okiecoiner opined that they are essentially worthless and always will be. (excluding errors & varieties).
Is it pointless to collect post bullion coins because they will never be considered collectable and probably will never appreciate in value.
I ask because the US forum seems to have a never ending stream of random modern circulation strike coins posted for grading. US coins are also just clad coins so what's the difference. Yes l know the US has 100x or whatever more collectors but that doesn't explain (at least not to me) why so few clad coins are posted in the Cdn forum versus the US forum.

My view is; with a few exceptions, the only modern coins worth grading are high mint state. Difference between a coin in MS60-63 vs. MS65-67 is, in my view, pretty apparent, specifically when answering the question "is this high or low grade". While I'd love to get opinions on some modern coins, I would struggle to produce a photo where commentators will be able to distinguish between MS66-67. That said; comparing my own grading to ICCS submissions, I feel pretty confident with my own grading. Once I find a coin that I consider to be high grade (65-67), I have three mental buckets that distinguish between the three grades.

I personally enjoy collecting modern coins so would be happy to see more of them on the forum, but they are certainly less popular. I'd be keen to see MS67 toonies and especially MS66+ coloured toonies/loonies/dimes graded by ICCS. MS66+ grades of the coloured coins are hard to find and although I've seen it for a few of the issues, I'm curious as to whether they even exist for others.

Goof ball has a great point there, grading modern coins in the 65-67 range from pics is really difficult, like trying to grade gem banknotes from pics it's a futile exercise.

@ canucklehead there are no clad Canadian coins posted because there are no clad Canadian coins, You've got to learn the very basics first before you can start grading.

Well I thought it was an innocuous question.

@goofball; many thanks for the reply. I also collect modern coins, I really like a number of designs on some of the commemoratives. I hope moderns can garner a little more love within the forums.

@DBM; Relax, clad/platted I was just using it as a generic reference. Your jab was unnecessary and not appreciated but I'll make you a deal. I'll learn the very basics if you learn how to have a constructive dialogue without launching personal attacks.

As a pillar of the community I expected better.

You have a wonderful day.

My impression is that there are a lot more people influenced by the "get rich from pocket change" stuff in the US Moderns forum.
