Quote: what is a coal dollar? When I purchased it I was told it was something of a promo piece similar to the tidy house morgans, if you buy a certain amount of coal you would get this as a "reward". However I did some research and this is what I found. In the early 1950's, the Jonesville Coal Company in Alaska paid their employees with silver dollars with the "This is a Coal Dollar" sticker. This was to show the impact that the mine had on the local economy. For several weeks the surrounding communities were flooded with these stickered coins.
I've been collecting for a couple years... Favorite Coin's are Standing Liberty quarters, Working on my type set | Coffee, Corvettes, Coins & the CCF what could be better?
