Quote:I looked for a registry on the Canadian Paper Money Forum & didn't find anything so I'm not sure if there is one. The thing is: Canadians hoarded many $100 & $1000 notes in their Safety Deposit Boxes at the banks. This has never changed much but we kept seeing $1000 all the time in high grades (dumped on the market by the heirs). When I started getting back into the hobby in 2003, one could pick AU Birds & Mod $1000 up for a few bucks over FV (unless they were the Thiessen Crow or Birds replacement varieties). I talked to dealers about them & most weren't interested b/c they found so few collectors seeking them. Mostly coin collectors collect them as when I went to a RCNA workshop I was shocked to see how many coin collectors had one (but a lot of them got them for FV from family/friends). It's interesting that people would hang on to them back in 1954 as that was a lot of money back then. I guess that's how a lot of notes get kept though. Either that or in a safe. Quote: one could pick AU Birds & Mod $1000 up for a few bucks over FV I acquired my modified and bird $1000 in that way. I paid $2100 for both together and had them graded. Like you said, I've also noticed a lot of dealers don't keep them in stock unless they're high grade or rare. Quote: Re: your Modified set. All your notes are pretty well centred & have nice eye appeal. I see that your $50 is 20 off from being a 2 digit radar! I really like the back designs (various scenic spots across the country). I think my favourite is the FIVE. I really like the back designs as well! Quote: A really super collection! Thanks!

Quote: The multicolor series 1969-1979 is my favorite series. Especially the 1972 $5. All notes are UNC-60 or better with an "Original" designation. A wonderful looking set!

Sweet looking set of the Scenes of Canada series. They're my favourite series too (& I have far too many!). This series is what got me hooked with collecting Bank of Canada notes. Did you know that the Bank of Canada now calls these notes the Scenes of Canada series? The catalogues have referred to it as "Multicoloured" or "1969-1979" but I feel "Scenes of Canada" is a more appropriate attribution as it was the first series that seemed completely Canadian (IMO). Here's an interesting link to some background info provided by the BoC Museum on the principle engraver: https://www.bankofcanadamuseum.ca/2...es-100-bill/

Gorgeous set of Birds Q60driver! Super grades too. Nice to see the back designs on these. (The grosbeaks are one of my favourite birds too but I have learned to admire them from afar).

Quote: The Journey series is the series I'm not really enthusiastic about. I really like the Journey series because of all the trouble it caused the central bank (with the photocopying) & the endless # of collectible prefixes, change overs & even year change overs (a first for CDN collectors). There are flashy little gold leaves on the front (& other security features) which have an optical effect but most cash handlers really never paid the security features much attention. Quote: I didn't see much value in searching out high grade uncirculated notes so the grades are mostly 62's and 63's with one gem. The paper on the first few prefixes (printed in 2000 & 2001) was terrible so that the notes wore out very quickly (they fixed that). I remember many collectors not liking them much but I found them pretty exciting to collect (especially the TENS). I found several tough ones (or special numbers) & plucked them from bricks. BCS rarely gave me a 64 so I think part of the low grades are based on his ultra conservative standards & likely the notes were handled a bit by the central bank (due to production problems or inspection). Sorry, didn't mean to steal your thread. Just wanted to give you some added context (re: issues, why they were fun to collect & the lower grades). Great set of notes BTW.
