I've decided to follow in Walk2thewater's footsteps and tell everyone a bit about my collection.

My collecting history started when my parents got me interested in searching through pocket change as an 8 year old. This was back in the 80's when silver was much easier to find. Before I knew it I had a binder full of different dates and denominations.

Spring ahead to the year 2002 when I was in my mid 20's and came across that very binder. That started a new passion for collecting raw coins and banknotes. I even started dabbling as an ebay seller for a time back when the fees were quite low. I sold coins, banknotes and toy cars.

By 2007, my new passion was thrown in the dumpster as I fell on hard times. I had to sell everything I own, including my collection, in order to support my family.

My luck would improve in 2011 and by 2014 the passion was rekindled. This time around I was starting from scratch and decided to collect mainly graded coins and banknotes. My collection includes:
Canada 1 cent coins 1858 to 2012 ICCS graded MS-60 or better
Canada 1 dollar coins 1935 to 1986 ICCS graded MS-60 or better
Canada 1 cent mint wrapped rolls 1978 to 2012
Canada Proof Like/Uncirculated sets 1954 to present
Canada 1973 1 dollar prefix banknote set
Canada denomination banknote set 1937 to present

I will begin my next post with the 1937 series.

Enjoy!

My criteria for the 1937 series is to look for notes with an "Original" designation and to be graded AU-50 or better. The only exception to this will be the $1000 note, if I'm able to find one in my price range. I won't hold my breath lol

Very nice set of 37's with excellent eye appeal @Q60driver! I find AU50+ to be a very nice grade range with nice crisp paper & the original colours show very well.

Happy Thanksgiving (that's my dancing pumpkin) & nice start to what should be another fun thread to follow!

As with the 1937 series, my criteria for the 1954 Devils Face notes was the same. AU-50 or better with an "original" designation. I did manage to acquire a $1000 for this series but in order to be in my price range, it's a lower grade along with being cleaned and pressed. I don't usually like notes that have been altered but with some rare notes, exceptions need to be made in order to be affordable. I did find an unaltered one in a low grade recently and I may upgrade to that one if the auction goes in my favor.

Enjoy!

Also wanted to ask the experts, does anyone know the survival rate for the 1954 Devils Face $1000? I know there were only 30,000 printed but just wondering if there is a list of known serial numbers showing estimates of how many survivors there are.

For the 1954 Modified Series, I currently have them AU-50 or better but I'm in the process of upgrading to UNC-60 or better. Again, keeping all notes Original.

For the Centennial notes, I have the 2 varieties. Double date and serial number. Everything from this point forward will be uncirculated except for one, which I may upgrade eventually.

I looked for a registry on the Canadian Paper Money Forum & didn't find anything so I'm not sure if there is one. The thing is: Canadians hoarded many $100 & $1000 notes in their Safety Deposit Boxes at the banks. This has never changed much but we kept seeing $1000 all the time in high grades (dumped on the market by the heirs). When I started getting back into the hobby in 2003, one could pick AU Birds & Mod $1000 up for a few bucks over FV (unless they were the Thiessen Crow or Birds replacement varieties). I talked to dealers about them & most weren't interested b/c they found so few collectors seeking them. Mostly coin collectors collect them as when I went to a RCNA workshop I was shocked to see how many coin collectors had one (but a lot of them got them for FV from family/friends).

Re: your Modified set.
All your notes are pretty well centred & have nice eye appeal. I see that your $50 is 20 off from being a 2 digit radar! I really like the back designs (various scenic spots across the country). I think my favourite is the FIVE.
