This one has always looked like a clown to me. I don't think he would have been happy seeing his image like this. Portugal 50 Escudos 1969

...Ol' Vasco daGama does look like a 'dandy', what with the hair-do & fancy cap, but a pretty neat looking coin, none the less

It's quite funny when a coin bears the title of a ruler but the design shows something else. One may wonder which of the two giraffes depicted on this Rhodesian halfpenny is Her Gracious Majesty Queen Elizabeth II...

Quote: which of the two giraffes... they are obviously jousting for which one gets to wear the huge crown between them.

Great thread and so far are all official coins rather than novelty coins. Switzerland has minted a gold coin in 2020 so small you'd need to look very closely to see Albert Einstein sticking out his tongue at you like the famous photo. Only 999 have been made - the 2.96-millimeter (0.12-inches) gold coin is the smallest in the world.

Quote: that is cool, datadragon ... do you carry these in a pocket?...lol Lol, It is similar in size to the combined thickness of two pieces of paper..very tiny and also intended as a collectible as there are only 999 made. The coins are, obviously, not meant for circulation so are classified as Non-Circulating Legal Tender (NCLT) targeted at collectors, but if gold ever somehow becomes normal to transact with even beyond things like those goldbacks perhaps people would carry them around in that case like we do with change. People typically would use silver for smaller amounts although gram and tiny gold like that might be useful vs a full ounce of gold. Its super tiny... The famous image of Einstein sticking out his tongue was taken on his 72nd birthday on March 14, 1951 by the way. United Press photographer Arthur Sasse was trying to persuade him to smile for the camera, but having smiled for photographers many times that day, the scientist stuck out his tongue instead. Just funny to see it on a coin and in gold. From 1895 to 1914, Einstein lived mainly in Switzerland, where he also completed his studies in 1900, at today's ETH in Zurich. In 1901, he was granted Swiss citizenship and in 1902 he found permanent employment as a technical expert in the Patents Office in Bern. It was in 1905 that he published what is probably the most famous formula in the world: E=mc2.

1981 San Marino 200 lire. I always find this coin funny. Looks like the designer ran out of room, so turned the bull into a contortionist to make it fit.

..that's funny, triggersmob... @datadragon ... thanks for the pics showing the size of the 1/4 franc coin ... I had briefly searched online, looking for a possible purchase of said coin, but could not find one for sale ... sold out immediately, & no one wants to part with theirs ... last sale I could find was on ebay, $19,400 for a cameo proof ... oh well ...
