Hiya folks, I'm not only brand new to this forum, I'm brand new to collecting as a whole. You can probably empathise with a new collector finding THIS in an ordered assortment of coins.

Happy to privide any details. I've got a bunch of apps which can usually at least point me in the right direction if I put all their heads together, but I've got nothing on this one.

Thanks for any advice possible!

Yes that central loop on the back side makes this a button. If you decide to clean up the front side, I'd be interested to see that sun pattern.

Also, welcome to CCF!

Yes, a button. From the encrustation, I would presume it to be a metal detector find.

Thanks, everyone! The penny dropped (no pun intended) as soon as someone said the word "button". The odd 'growth' out the back should have tipped me off, but I don't know. My mind was just far away from buttons whle going through the pack of coins!

Thanks for the welcome, Spence. I'm keen to see what it looks like, too. I'm trying to read up how to clean coins properly as I know there more to it than Fairy liquid and a toothbrush (joke!) but maybe I could cut my teeth cleaning this button before I clean any of the other coins.

Any cleaning suggestions for a beginner?
