Congratulations, jbuck. Half the fun in this hobby is the chase. . .seems like you've gotten a lot of satisfaction out of Liking Ike. Thanks for sharing the journey with us on the CCF.

Quote: After reviewing the beautiful Ike's in this thread again, I noticed that Philadelphia suddenly started to mint proof Ike coins/medals around 1990. Why is that? Why not leave it to San Francisco only? Philadelphia has issued may proof commemorative strikes, not just for the Eisenhower Centennial. Perhaps this is a good question for commems? http://goccf.com/t/425140

Quote: Amazing Ike collection jbuck! Thank you. Quote: I enjoyed finding these in circulation back in the day. I wish I had more opportunities to find them. I did not start looking until after they stopped making them.

Quote: Good job, Jbuck! Thank you! Quote:It's really hard to put a quality Ike dollar set together. The mint had a difficult time for the first couple of years with the dies for such a large cupronickel clad coin. Agreed. The earlier years were more difficult to find and pinched the wallet a little more. Quote: It's why I really only collect the S mint silver clads. Softer metal means better strikes. When I bought the first two graded Ikes from Bobby, I thought about only doing a silver set. Briefly.

Now that I have caught up with replies, an update. The Ike is due tomorrow, but not sure when I can post it. Helene was not good to us. Not good at all. We still do not have power. I work from home, but I made it up to my employer's building to take advantage of the connectivity and power. Not sure when I will come back, work is on hold until things are normalized here.

Quote: I did not start looking until after they stopped making them From the late sixties on my older sister and her husband went to Las Vegas twice a year. They always brought back dollar coins for my mom. You can imagine playing the dollar slot machines. They would put in paper bills and then keep all of the dollar coins they won without feeding them back in the machine.

Slot machines paid out in coins until 1999 or 2000. I haven't been to Las Vegas since the mid 90s.
Don't worry about the photos right now, jbuck. Best of luck recuperating.
