Quote: What is a frith nickel? I'm so glad you asked that question @dbm. I stopped by this thread to fix what I assumed was a typo in the title, but instead learned something.

I ran your image through Fotor AI enhancement, and this is what came out. You will need to zoom out the resolution because I had to zoom in for the screen capture. The AI believes it sees an S in the fog.

Hi,thanks, that's better resolution than I could get,I learned from buying way over 100 coins as rare prospects over 25 years that I start seeing what I want to see after a while instead of looking at stuff with and open mind because you want it to be what you think it is so bad,and only 5 have been correct after all these years, most get here and are just regular old coins even though the web pictures look like a rarity LOL,I do see a S too though that's why it's in the mail and on the way, theres no point passing on stuff for sale under 10 bucks if it looks OK,every coin in a slab was found by somebody looking,I'll see in a week.

Very odd post. I do not believe this coin it is legitim.
Breen see this coin in 1961 and Taxay in 1963. Seem to be an small S and never authentify as original or add. Second could be an man maide error.
Questions about this efemera: 1. was an test coin? No, will be not so circulated 2. The coin now it is in possesion of Silver Town, but never certifyed. Just think of this: you has unique coin and you do not certify? LOL. 3. To day experts I think are better then Breen or Taxay. 4. the originals photos which are only in the Breen Encyclopedia show an strange S.
Years ago ( I think around 2014 or 2015) we had an big debate aboute this "Frith" (name come from this guy who send to Taxay) on PCGS forum and was really at the end state is not legitim coin.
So guys this kind of topic it is just time spend because coins as this are like the clouds in the wind. Will come from no where and go no where.

Well, best of luck that the AI is correct! For the price of a pint, it's a fun adventure in numismatics. At the very least, many of us learned that Frith Nickels exist! =)

Hi Silvio, all I did was put up a bad picture of a coin I bought as a prospect LOL but even when it's gets here and probably ends up being nothing there still are rare coins out there to be found by somebody, the first copper 83D,the firs 92D Close AM,lots, but before the first ones were found they were just myths like the 1964 Peace dollar, people swear they were made, some say they saw them made at the mint, the 1974 Aluminum Penny was a myth for 25 years, any coin ever made could have a die mix up,people are people and make mistakes look at the 2000 Sacagawea mules, the Cheerios Sagagawea was not even discovered until years after they were made, value now is over 20 grand USD and somebody had to find the first one,is mine a rarity,I don't know yet,if it has an S on it it's still not legit until they say it is,just saying Sir that there out there yet, just gotta go hunting to find them.
