Yes remember MD serves to decrease the width of devices whereas a doubled die will increase that width. You can see this effect especially well on the number 9 in the date.

This is where it gets cloudy for me, so the coin from the link above, I can definitely see reduction in size, but on my coin, I just see a reg size 9, then some "extra", to the south
