I'm always cautious with these since being burned with a counterfeit some decades ago. That said, I don't see anything that screams fake but I would be more comfortable with weight and measure known. Can't tell if the hairlines in the fields are from die polishing or and old wipe. Lacks a little luster in these pics. If genuine I would put it in the high AU range.

First thought on this coin was AU-details (cleaned).

I think I can see a tiny flat spot of wear on Lib's left boob. No significant residual luster for a high AU grade coin. AU- 58 cleaned,
A reasonably pleasing coin, anyway.
To my eye, minor die cracks either side of TRADE DOLLAR, adds to the interest.

Thanks for the comments. I paid $495 for the coin, and I would need an AU straight grade to get to that value. The obverse on the coin has been cleaned and in hand the cleaning hairlines are distracting. I will be returning the coin to the seller as the seller called the coin a high grade uncirculated example.

The details are AU+. The cleaning isn't bad but is apparent. Return for refund.

I would buy this coin as an AU- (details cleaned), provided that the price was right.

Quote: the seller called the coin a high grade uncirculated example. in their dreams, they either have no idea how to determine wear or they were trying to rip someone off i agree AU details (cleaned). on top of that if I had to assign a numerical grade i'd be at AU50 maybe an outside shot at 53. just too much wear for a high grade AU coin imo

I agree on the obverse being cleaned but the reverse die crack is cool. I'd guess AU-58 obverse cleaned though

$495 for a raw Trade dollar that the seller called a high grade uncirculated example. What could possibly go wrong ?
