The PCGS page for that number does say "This coin features NFC anti-counterfeiting technology. Tap a NFC enabled device to the front of the label to further verify authenticity."
So I guess it should be straightforward to verify that the slab is legit?

Why would the auction house put this coin into a registry set? Maybe the auction house sold this coin and it was returned for a refund. The buyer could have entered the coin into a registry set.

Can you get a close up photo of the CC on reverse? The near date position matches the VAM 6, but the CC appears to be off.

I stand by my opinion that this is a fake coin.
It may be a real holder, but I believe that the coin in the holder is fake. PCGS does make mistakes.

 Gotta give it to the sleuths on this forum. Can spot a fake from a mile away and aren't swayed by the trappings of a plastic rectangle and a piece of paper.

The barcode appears to have the cert number. What is wrong with the barcode?
I ran a barcode from a 1891 CC PCGS AU50 same age holder with NFC anti-counterfeiting technology. Cert #: 7206.50/48383938 Barcode: 10000072061050048483938
It appears to have the same format as the OP example with PCGS #, grade, and cert #.

We're both saying that it scans correctly. I get the same result. There are fake slabs with correct barcodes so we still can't rule it out. See what you think once you get it.

Lot's of opinions on both sides here. When she shows up, I'll try to get decent photos (not my strong suite) and take it to my buddy at the LCS for xrf scan. I'm not sure where to scan the NFC gizmo.
