*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. It's very important to have in the title. ***

I am 99% sure that this is split pleading but my question is around the color. Why is there such a drastic change in color above the letters on the reverse side?

Thank you in advance for the help and the continued education y'all provide!!! (I am still a rookie over here.)

Yes, split plating--has exposed the zinc core. When fresh, zinc has a dull silver/steel-like look to it.
