Just received from the US Mint a new box to store my clad 2023 proof set. I checked what the error was - sets sold until recently had the incorrect picture of Bessie Coleman on the packaging. I am keeping both as I it is a rather fascinating error that is not directly numismatic and more akin to a stamp error (think about the Legends of Wild West 1993 pane of 20 stamps that had for the first month or two the wrong picture of Bill Pickett).

How would you classify this error - numismatically related or simply "other". Have you encountered such a mint packaging error before?

And BTW now watch out for you tubers talking about a "rarity" of 2023 Clad Proof sets with the packaging error and how one should seek after it!!!!!! I hope not because I think over 300,000 sets have the error, so those with the corrected packaging will lesser than those with the incorrect one (unless this causes a run on 2023 clad proof sets).

The 2019 Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Proof Half Dollar Set had a printing error. You had to request a replacement OGP from the Mint.

Last year I received an unsolicited replacement COA for my 2023 Liberty Silver Medal. The original referred to it as a coin.

"Packaging error" would be an apt description. The coins are fine and error-free, it's just the packaging that's wrong.

From non-US coins, the Austrlaian 1982 Commonwealth Games $10 coins are notorious for error descriptions in the packaging. The coins depict 12 sports played at the Commonwealth Games, but some of the insert cards describe just nine sports, and two of those sports are incorrectly described. The Royal Australian Mint was suffering from prolonged industrial action at the time, and had to outsource production of these cards so the coins could be ready in time for sale during the Games.

Here's the original packaging for the 2023 Silver Proof Set. Because I bought it over the counter, I will never receive a replacement/corrected box.

Thanks for posting the updated packaging @hokiefan. Maybe I will request the new box from the U.S. Mint.

I wonder why they changed the image.
Because the Bessie Coleman in the original image is not the Bessie Coleman being honored on the quarter.

I just received my updated Silver and Clad boxes today. I also noticed the picture of the penny on both the original and updated packaging shows a 2022 penny, not a 2023. so there is still an error.

Thanks for the welcome jbuck.

Dearborn - I sent an email to the mint customer service explaining the penny issue and just received a response. It doesn't appear they are planning to do anything about it.

Subject: Updated packaging for 2023 Silver and Clad Proof sets

Thank you for the updated proof boxes reflecting the change in pictures on the reverse. I noted though the penny on both the original packaging and the updated packaging shows a 2022 penny and not what is in the set (2023).
