Always Good To Have Some Insurance (Stocks)

Insurance securities started out a little different than stocks. The early one were called certificates of profit. Since the insured were also considered company owners, they benefited from any profits. The capital staked by paid premiums was invested and if profits exceeded the claims that year all the mutual holders would receive a share of the excess. Eventually, insurance companies changed over to the standard practice of selling shares of stock.
