Hi I have what I think is a George III Cartwheek penny 1797 (35mm dia x 3mm thick). Its not in that good condition. Is it worth anything?

This is the worst specimen I've ever seen - the ultimate "low-ball"!

It might be worth a bit to a low-ball collector, but otherwise just the value of almost an ounce of copper.

Candidate for the junk bin, I'm thinking.

My local dealer has a junk bin with coins for 25 pence each, and I've seen similar ones in it! But it's still quite fun to have a genuine 18th-century coin, a piece of English history!

How did you ever get a date out of that coin? That one sure did its work back in the day.
To me it is either good for the copper smelter or a lowball collection.
I think I can make out the letters R and X from REX on the rim - right side.
I had to go back to my coin to help me make out details, The date should be on the reverse rim, but I cannot make it out at all.

It's fairly straightforward to date that type - they were only made in one year!
