The warmest winter in Milwaukee's recorded history meant I've been able to get out detecting several times recently in a wooded area along the Milwaukee River. I've haven't found a lot, but enough to keep me coming back.

Yesterday, I dug up the ugliest Indian Head cent I have ever found. Normally, the soil here in SE Wisconsin is very kind to coppers, but this coin was found on low ground about forty feet from the river, so I suspect during its 100 years in the soil it got wet when the river flooded. Its sad remains bear testimony to that.

Last week's hunt was more productive. I found a nice silver ring, dug on my first signal of the day. I also uncovered what looks to be a fired three ring bullet (?), a 1920-D Lincoln Cent and a Milwaukee dog tag dated 1938.

That poor cent!

Is there anything you can do to restore it?

marckdaniels,

I think a coin this far gone is beyond hope. There really isn't much left of it, unfortunately.

At least I can say I dug up an Indian Head cent.
