I think he is looking at the mark on the lower part of the mint mark. Just looks like a coin hit to me. The mint mark is the normal size with just part of the metal pushed.

This is one I could only determine by looking at the coin under a microscope.

In the two bottom ones I see something that looks like a faint backwards S, but not a D

In the last two photos I agree with nod2003,but I think that's just an illusion. I do see what looks like a second D under the main D as in rockdudes photo though. I also agree with coppercoins post.
